01 / Voice modeNot every night is a camera night. Bad lighting, a room you would rather not show, or simply the wish to be heard before being looked at — voice chat covers all three without turning you into a different kind of user.
Voice here is not a separate room with its own queue. It is the same one-to-one match, connected the same way, with the lens left off. Everything else behaves exactly as it does in a video match, including the button that moves you on.
That matters because it keeps the choice reversible. You are never locked into the mode you started in. Video can join the call at any point, and it can leave again.
How a voice match runs
Match the usual way
One click from the matching screen. No separate voice lobby to find, no different account state, nothing extra to switch on beforehand.
Microphone on, lens off
You are heard, not watched. The other side sees that your camera is off rather than a frozen frame or a fake placeholder face.
Let video arrive later
Should the exchange earn it, opening the lens takes one tap and happens in place. No reconnection, nobody dropped.
Move on the same way
The next button works identically in voice. One click ends the call and starts looking for the next person.
Why people pick voice
Voice does something video cannot: it removes the performance. Nobody is checking their own thumbnail, fixing their hair or angling a lamp. What is left is the conversation, which is usually the part people came for anyway.
It also lowers the cost of a bad match. Ending a voice call that is going nowhere feels like hanging up. Ending a video call that is going nowhere feels like walking out of a room. The first one is easier, so people try more often.

Can I use CamSurfCam without turning my camera on?
Yes. Queue as normal, leave the lens shut, and talk. Video stays optional throughout.
Is voice chat a separate section of the site?
No. It is the same matching queue and the same one-to-one call. Voice, video and text are modes inside one conversation, not three different products.
Can the camera come on partway through?
It can. The lens opens inside the live session, so no reconnect happens and the other side never drops out.
Does the other person know my camera is off?
Yes, and that is deliberate. They see that you are audio only rather than a still image pretending to be a live feed.
Do voice matches use free matches the same way?
They do. A voice match counts like any other match, so the free ones you start with and anything the Reward Center adds apply here too.
